What is a Columbarium?
The Columbarium WallThe wall around the garden would be constructed with materials that match our church building. It would contain about 588 garden niches, each with a marble plaque memorializing a loved one and engraved with his or her name and dates of birth and death. A garden niche could be used for the internment of one or two family members.
CremationCremation is simple, dignified and practical. It is less expensive than burial, and it reduces space needs and conserves land. When we hear the words “ashes to ashes” at funeral services, we would know that Greenwood is preserving the world for the living while dedicating space for our deceased at our place of worship. Interment of remains in no way affects the resurrection. The power to resurrect is not in the burial ways of humans but in the hands of God
Garden Costs
Construction and maintenance of the Memorial Garden would be privately financed by Greenwood Community Church members through the purchase of garden niches in the columbarium wall and/or donations for beautification of the garden. The church would oversee the columbarium wall and maintain the garden with the proceeds from the niche sales and would incur no debt.
