Who is Greenwood Community Church
Message from our Pastor
Twelve years ago, my son Nicholas gave me a small plant in a paper cup as a Father’s Day gift. Touched by his thoughtfulness, I vowed to give this plant my best care, even though I knew very little about what that care would entail. I placed it on my desk in the sun and watered it. To my amazement, it grew. Today, that plant is a small tree. It is one of my most prized possessions –not because of its size or beauty, but because it was a gift from my son, whom I love.
In those 12 years, I re-potted my plant about four or five times to encourage it to grow and flourish. This is the only plant that I have ever given this much attention –not because I love plants–but because this plant is a gift from my son. If someone had asked me how big the plant would get, I would have said, “I’m not sure, but I’m going to do all I can to keep it healthy so it can be the plant it was designed to be.”
In 1991 the Lord gave me a call and, in so doing, a gift. That call was to spread the message of His grace to as many as he would send my way. The gift was Greenwood Community Church. We were a small group of people who were alive with a vision to grow God’s kingdom by spreading His grace. We were planted in an adequate “pot” located on the corner of Belleview and Holly. As we have endeavored to water and tend this “gift,” God has not only increased our numbers, but helped our body thrive. Today that plant has grown from 50 people to sharing God’s grace to nearly 2,800. Along the way, we’ve had to re-pot (expand our building) to allow the plant to remain healthy and as a result, it continues to grow. God has used us to help plant four new churches, start many new ministries, and witness hundreds of families, parents and children grow and mature spiritually.
We welcome all who wish to join with us in this never-ending adventure of faith.
