Legacy Fund
The Legacy Fund is a designated account within Greenwood Community Church’s financial framework, set aside from the general operating budget. The Legacy Fund is a long-term opportunity for gifting to the future, and ongoing, mission and vision of the church. Gifts can be made to the fund on a one-time or recurring basis, or as part of a long-term estate planning strategy. The Legacy Fund’s principal balance is preserved, and distributions will be made from the resulting investment and/or interest income, generally on an annual basis, as determined by the church Session. The Legacy Fund has been set up in response to the Session’s discernment that the long-term needs of the church, and its members would be better served and preserved by this additional gifting option.
Distributions made from the fund are intended to bless the church’s mission and work here at home and worldwide via our mission partners. While the distribution allocations may vary annually, the Session will direct the funds as they best discern, be it for considerable capital expenditures in the upkeep of the church property and building, giving to mission partners, and seeding pastoral opportunities within our church walls. The fund is intentionally separated from the the church’s operating budget, so as not to be consumed within ongoing operational expenses.
In alignment with the church’s theology of generosity, the Legacy Fund seeks to be a vehicle of joyful and sacrificial generosity for the people of God within Greenwood with a focus on making a lasting impact for future generations of the church. Gifts to the Legacy Fund are not intended to be an additional request upon our congregation, so much as an invitation for our people to experience more faith, joy, and freedom in considering the long-term needs of the church. Giving to the Legacy Fund, as an expression of generosity, will sow seeds for the future of the church out of the well-stewarded blessing of God’s provision from within our church body.
The following Bible verses were considered as part of the Session’s discernment process in discussing the scriptural application towards creating and maintaining the Legacy Fund and are listed here for your additional consideration and encouragement towards contributing to the mission and vision of the Legacy Fund. Please read and consider the following: 1 Peter 4:10, 2 Corinthians 9:7, Proverbs 13:22, Matthew 25:14-30, Proverbs 19:17, Luke 16:10-12.
The Greenwood Legacy Fund is governed by written bylaws approved by the Session of Greenwood Community Church. Continuing stewardship and oversight are provided by the Legacy Fund committee, the Session, and in special cases, congregational meetings. Changes to the bylaws must be approved by the Session.
