Project Luz

We believe that God calls his people to care for immigrants in our community and to love them as we do ourselves (Leviticus 19:33-34). In the past several months, Denver has seen a rapid influx of immigrants from Central and South America to our neighborhoods. For pregnant mothers who have recently arrived in Denver, the process of welcoming a new baby into an unfamiliar community can be daunting – physically, emotionally, and financially. We want to help these new mothers and their newborns in a tangible way by meeting some of their material needs: by providing car seats, safe sleep spaces, baby clothes, and other supplies, we can align ourselves with the Lord in His great love for these immigrants in our midst. The Spanish term for childbirth is “dar a luz,” which literally means “to give to the light.” In calling our effort Project Luz, we are hoping to bring light into what can otherwise be a dark time for some of the most vulnerable members of our local community.

If you are interested in giving financially to our project, please donate on Greenwood’s giving page here and select “Project Luz” from the fund drop-down menu. Your donation will allow us to buy car seats so that infants can be safely transported home from the hospital, to doctor’s appointments, and around town. We will also be helping new moms out with safe sleep spaces (Pack ’n Plays), baby clothing, and other supplies for their newborns and their families.

If you are interested in volunteering with our project, please access our group’s google form here. We need volunteers to help gather supplies and coordinate drop-offs for our families in need.

Thank you for your support in loving these moms and families so they may know Jesus and experience God’s beautiful Kingdom!
